Engineering the future of physical and occupational therapy

Our founders’ story

In 2020, one of our co-founders witnessed firsthand the life-changing impact of losing independence when a close family member was diagnosed with a neurological condition. Watching a loved one struggle with even the simplest daily tasks sparked a powerful question: What if we could give that independence back?

That question became the driving force behind Bioliberty. Inspired by a shared vision, Rowan, Ross, Shéa, and Conan combined their engineering expertise and passion for innovation to create intuitive, accessible therapy tools to help individuals regain mobility, independence, and quality of life.

Our founders

Rowan Armstrong, MEng RAEng
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

After completing a master’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Edinburgh, Rowan worked as a Machine Learning engineer at Spacelabs Healthcare before joining Siemens Healthineers in London. At Siemens, Rowan worked in sales and marketing within Ultrasound, CT, and MRI divisions, before joining the healthcare consulting team. Rowan supported the improvement of clinical processes in various hospitals throughout the pandemic, which involved the implementation of telehealth systems.

Since co-founding Bioliberty in 2020, Rowan has become a Royal Academy of Engineering Fellow, attracted the highest calibre investors in the US and Scotland, and helped form partnerships with some of the largest healthcare providers in the US.

Ross O’Hanlon, MEng
Chief Technology Officer

Ross holds a master’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with Management from the University of Edinburgh, where he built a strong foundation in robotics, automation, and systems design. He began his career in technology transfer with the GRID Innovation Team at Heriot-Watt University before moving to Edinburgh Innovations. There, he played a key role in commercializing academic research, assisting spin-outs in securing significant investment and contributing to multiple successful exits.

At Bioliberty, Ross leads the technical vision and product development strategy. He oversees the design and engineering of Bioliberty’s therapy technologies, ensuring that every solution is both clinically relevant and scalable.

Conan Bradley, MEng
Chief Commercial Officer

Conan graduated at the top of his class in Product Design Engineering from Queen’s University Belfast, where he developed a strong foundation in innovation and product development. Early in his career, he played a pivotal role in transforming Bloc Blinds—a consumer-focused company—into a medical device manufacturer at the height of the pandemic. This led to the formation of Bloc Medical and the securing of strategic NHS contracts.

Following this, Conan co-founded Bioliberty, where he now leads commercial strategy. His work focuses on scaling Bioliberty’s presence in global healthcare markets, with a mission to deliver transformative rehabilitation technology to those who need it most. Under his leadership, the company has already established partnerships with some of the most respected rehabilitation providers in the United States.

Shéa Quinn, MEng
Chief Operational Officer

Shéa completed an masters degree in Mechanical Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast. After graduating, Shéa gained industry experience before returning to academia as a PhD researcher, focusing on AI and smart manufacturing. Shéa then transitioned into the start-up world, joining Axial 3D, a medical technology company specializing in patient-specific models for pre-operative planning. It was here that Shea developed a passion for entrepreneurship, which ultimately led him to co-found Bioliberty.

As Chief Operating Officer at Bioliberty, Shéa is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the business. His role spans across people, operations, product, and finance, ensuring that the company is well-positioned to achieve its ambitious goals.
